Savoury Khichdi

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup rice
  • 1/4 cup moong dal
  • 1/4 cup tur dat
  • 1/4 tsp pepper powder
  • 1/4 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala powder, cloves, black cardamoms and cinnamon.
  • 3 cashewnuts, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp salt

For Seasoning

  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 1 tsp mixture of mustard, ajwain, saunf and kalonji
  • 1 tsp curry leaves
  • 1 bay leaf, torn into pieces

Method

  1. Roast the rice and the dais slightly.
  2. Heat ghee in a pan and fry the seasoning ingredients.
  3. Add chopped cashewnuts and fry.
  4. Now stir in the rice and the dais along with 2 cups of water and the remaining ingredients. Cook till the contents are tender and dry.
  5. Serve hot with chutney or curd.
