Savoury Khichdi
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup rice
- 1/4 cup moong dal
- 1/4 cup tur dat
- 1/4 tsp pepper powder
- 1/4 tsp cumin powder
- 1/4 tsp coriander powder
- 1/4 tsp garam masala powder, cloves, black cardamoms and cinnamon.
- 3 cashewnuts, chopped
- 1/4 tsp salt
For Seasoning
- 1 tsp ghee
- 1 tsp mixture of mustard, ajwain, saunf and kalonji
- 1 tsp curry leaves
- 1 bay leaf, torn into pieces
Method
- Roast the rice and the dais slightly.
- Heat ghee in a pan and fry the seasoning ingredients.
- Add chopped cashewnuts and fry.
- Now stir in the rice and the dais along with 2 cups of water and the remaining ingredients. Cook till the contents are tender and dry.
- Serve hot with chutney or curd.
