Urad Dal Surprise

Ingredients

  • 1 cup urad dal
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • A pinch of soda

For Seasoning

  • 1 tsp oil
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • 1/2 tsp cumin and mustard seeds
  • 1 green chili, minced

For Garnishing

  • 1/2 tsp cheese, grated
  • 1 tsp coriander leaves, chopped

Method

    1. Soak the urad dal for an hour.
    2. Grind the dal with the required quantity of water and salt to a smooth batter.
    3. 3, Mix the batter and the soda.
    4. Heat oil and fry the seasoning ingredients. Pour it over the batter. Mix the batter thoroughly till well combined.
    5. Pour the batter onto a greased plate and steam it for 5 minutes.
    6. Cut it into desired shapes and sizes.
    7. Garnish it with grated cheese and coriander leaves.
    8. Serve hot with sauce or chutney spooned over it.
