Dal Koftas in Rasam

Ingredients

  • For the Koftas
  • 1/2 cup tur dal
  • 1 red chili
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • 1/4 tsp salt

For the Rasam

  • 1 cup tamarind juice
  • 2 tsp cooked tur dal
  • A pinch of turmeric powder
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp rasam powder
  • 1 tsp curry leaves
  • 1 tsp coriander leaves

For Seasoning

  • 1/2 tsp ghee
  • 1/2 tsp mustard and cumin seeds

For the Rasam Powder

  • 1/2 tsp chana dal
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1/2 tsp pepper and cumin seeds
  • 1 red chili

Method

    1. Roast all the rasam powder ingredients and powder it.
    2. Soak the dal and the red chili for an hour and grind it to a paste along with the salt and asafoetida to a fine paste.
    3. Steam the paste in the cooker. When half done, shape the steamed dal into balls. Steam the balls again for a few minute.
    4. Mix the ingredients for rasam till well combined.
    5. Heat ghee in a pan and fry the seasoning ingredients.
    6. Stir in the rasam mixture and allow it boil.
    7. Drop the koftas into the boiling rasam and allow it to boil for few more minutes.
    8. Serve hot with rice.
