Dal Koftas in Rasam
Ingredients
- For the Koftas
- 1/2 cup tur dal
- 1 red chili
- A pinch of asafoetida
- 1/4 tsp salt
For the Rasam
- 1 cup tamarind juice
- 2 tsp cooked tur dal
- A pinch of turmeric powder
- A pinch of asafoetida
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp rasam powder
- 1 tsp curry leaves
- 1 tsp coriander leaves
For Seasoning
- 1/2 tsp ghee
- 1/2 tsp mustard and cumin seeds
For the Rasam Powder
- 1/2 tsp chana dal
- 1 tsp coriander seeds
- 1/2 tsp pepper and cumin seeds
- 1 red chili
Method
- Roast all the rasam powder ingredients and powder it.
- Soak the dal and the red chili for an hour and grind it to a paste along with the salt and asafoetida to a fine paste.
- Steam the paste in the cooker. When half done, shape the steamed dal into balls. Steam the balls again for a few minute.
- Mix the ingredients for rasam till well combined.
- Heat ghee in a pan and fry the seasoning ingredients.
- Stir in the rasam mixture and allow it boil.
- Drop the koftas into the boiling rasam and allow it to boil for few more minutes.
- Serve hot with rice.
